We’re transforming financial wellbeing in the UK
We’re an arm’s-length body of Government, sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions, with a commitment to ensuring that people throughout the UK have guidance and access to the information they need to make effective financial decisions over their lifetime.
We’re here to ensure every person feels more in control of their finances throughout their lives: from pocket money to pensions. Why? Because when they are, communities are healthier, businesses are more prosperous, the economy benefits and individuals feel better off.
Our key responsibilities
Our work is underpinned by five core functions: pensions guidance, debt advice, money guidance, consumer protection and coordinating a national strategy to improve financial wellbeing across the UK.
We also have a specific mandate from government to facilitate the pensions industry to develop pensions dashboards. This programme of work will allow individuals to access their pensions information online, securely and all in one place, supporting better planning for retirement.

Coordinating a common goal
Our ambition is that everyone sees financial wellbeing as a national mission and a core UK value.
There are many organisations in our nations which can make a real difference. Our flagship UK Strategy for Financial Wellbeing aims to bring these together into one shared purpose: achieving the UK’s five national goals for financial wellbeing.
- 2 million more children and young people getting a meaningful financial education
- 2 million more working-age ‘struggling’ and ‘squeezed’ people saving regularly
- 2 million fewer people often using credit for food and bills
- 2 million more people accessing debt advice, and
- 5 million more people understanding enough to plan for [and manage their money] in later life.
Working together we can really impact the lives of our customers. And we won’t stand still. We support innovation internally and externally so that everyone’s using the best ways out there to help people feel more in control of their money.
We lead the way with our own services
Our services reflect how much we care about the people we serve. They demonstrate what works best in a way that’s targeted to those most in need and inclusive of people from all backgrounds.
In 2022, our consumer-facing service, MoneyHelper, connected millions of people with the money guidance they needed to find their way forward.
MoneyHelper exists to help people move on with life. It’s here to cut through the jargon and complexity, explain what people need to do and how they can do it. It offers with free, impartial help that’s quick to find, easy to use and backed by government.
Whatever the circumstances, MoneyHelper is on people’s side. Online and over the phone, MoneyHelper provides clear money and pension guidance, as well as point people to trusted services, if they need more support.
Everyone making the most of their money and pensions
We help people – particularly those most in need – to improve their financial wellbeing and build a better, more confident future. Working collaboratively across the UK, we make sure customers can access high-quality money and pensions guidance and debt advice throughout their lives, how and when they need it.
